Following the emigration of almost half a million Greeks during the recent decade-long economic crisis, the issue of the diasporic vote has come to the forefront of Greece’s party-political debate. Domestically, the diasporic vote itself is no longer an issue: all parties agree with the principle that expatriates should be enabled to vote from abroad. However, there is still considerable controversy over the practicalities and the scope and inclusiveness of the law to be proposed. In the context of our Greek Diaspora Project at the University of Oxford, we are able to shed light on the views of the diaspora itself, which has been rather silent in this debate.
