This webinar will discuss the interaction between diaspora entrepreneurs and the Greek start-up ecosystem. Webinar participants will explore such issues as: the historical role of the diaspora in business innovation in Greece; the contribution of diaspora entrepreneurs and networks in the ability of Greek start-ups to internationalise their business model; the power of attraction of the Greek start-up ecosystem to diaspora entrepreneurs such as privileged access to highly skilled, competitively-priced human resources; the pull factor, i.e. how the Greek start-up ecosystem, by virtue of the extrovertness of its key players, its own tendency to establish operations or spin-offs abroad, its need to access know-how and funding not available in Greece, catalyses and cocreates network opportunities with diaspora entrepreneurs; the obstacles, such as a still unfavorable fiscal regime for high skilled, well-compensated employment in Greece and an academic and research community tied to EUfunding and operating under rigidly bureaucratic conditions, and how the diaspora networks and the Greek start-up ecosystem can co-strategize to overcome them.
